Recycling Glass
In order to be recycled glass must first be separated into three categories
| 1. Flint (clear) glass | |
| 2. Green glass | |
| 3. Amber (brown) glass |
Once glass has been separated into the above categories it is ready to undergo the process which will make it ready to be made into new glass products. Glass is a great candidate for recycling because it can recycled indefinitely without new materials needing to be added to the process.
Recycled glass is used to create:
Ceramics
Glassphalt (an asphalt substitute)
New bottles
Bricks
For every ton 2000 lbs of glass recycled 315 kgs of carbon dioxide is saved from going into the atmosphere.
It is important to note that heat tempered glass, such as Pyrex, cannot be recycled even though it may be clear. This is because it has added chemicals which are not recyclable.
