Recycling Plastics

In order to be recycled plastics must first be separated into seven different categories based on their chemical compositions.

1. PET – this includes 2 liter soda bottles and most food jars
2. HDPE – this includes detergent bottles and milk jugs
3. PVC – this includes outdoor furniture, water bottles, and salad dressing bottles
4. LDPE – this includes produce bags, trash can bags and dry cleaning bags
5. PP – this includes bottle caps and straws
6. PS – this includes Styrofoam peanuts, cups, plastic ware and take-away boxes
7. OTHER – this includes all other special plastics such as those used to create Tupperware and Nalgene bottles
