JULIE-ELLEN ACOSTA

BOEING

VICE PRESIDENT

LEADERSHIP TALENT MANAGEMENT

Julie-Ellen Acosta was appointed vice president of Leadership Talent Management in September 2008.  Her responsibilities include integrating the succession planning and performance management processes with programs designed to accelerate and enable the leadership capabilities of Boeing employees. Combined, these internal methodologies help The Boeing Company maintain a robust leadership pipeline.

Acosta, an electrical and systems engineer, has more than 25 years in the aerospace industry. Her domestic and international experience in leadership and program management roles within the commercial and defense sectors helps Acosta prepare the next generation of Boeing leaders.

Prior to her Leadership Talent Management assignment, she served as the vice president of AeroStructures, Manufacturing and Support Technologies for Boeing Phantom Works. As a leader within the company's advanced research and development unit, Acosta led teams supporting structural design and analysis, advanced materials and processes, manufacturing technology, and product support technology.

Acosta has also held numerous senior positions in Boeing Commercial Airplanes, including:

§  Director of Quality & Process Improvement for the Wichita Commercial Division

§  Director of 757 Fuselage Structures, including program leadership for the 757 Fuselage Transfer; and senior operations leader for the 757 structure

§  “Design for Manufacturing” leader for the Next-Generation 737 fuselage; senior engineering design manager responsible for the Next-Generation 737 fuselage structures design; and structures manager responsible for the Classic 737 fuselage structure

A Boeing employee since 1985, Acosta began her career as a systems engineer on the F-4, Navigation and Weapons Delivery Program.  She also served in various lead engineering roles to support the design and build of Air Force One.  Before coming to Boeing, she held several roles in project engineering at Gates Learjet as a Flight Controls Specialist and Avionics Engineer.

Acosta earned both a bachelor’s and master's degree in electrical engineering from Wichita State University, and currently sits on several advisory boards as the Boeing executive focal for the University.  She also completed post graduate studies in structural design and analysis, as well as systems engineering, and participated in an executive education program at Harvard Business School.

Acosta, who now lives in St. Louis, is married and has four children.
